Northpoint Training Center
Northpoint Training Center (NTC) is a state-operated correctional facility located in Danville, Kentucky, in northern Boyle County. The facility is managed by the Kentucky Department of Corrections and serves as a medium-security institution for adult male offenders. The property has a long history of serving the state, and the Department of Corrections took control of the site in January 1983.
Significant changes have shaped the history of Northpoint Training Center. The property was originally developed as a state mental hospital and was later used by the U.S. Army during World War II to care for soldiers with psychiatric illnesses and to house German prisoners of war. Before becoming a correctional facility, the site also operated as the Kentucky State Hospital and later as a youth development center. In 1983, the Kentucky Department of Corrections assumed control of the property and established Northpoint Training Center.
Currently, Northpoint Training Center operates as a medium-security correctional institution with a bed capacity of approximately 1,256 inmates. The facility includes general population housing, special management beds, and minimum-security housing outside the secure perimeter. Northpoint also provides programs designed to support rehabilitation, education, employment preparation, treatment, and successful reentry into the community. Its programs include treatment services and specialized opportunities such as the Mutts with Manners dog-training program, which helps participating inmates develop responsibility, teamwork, and job-related skills.
The facility allows approved visitation, which helps incarcerated individuals maintain connections with family and other approved visitors. In-person visits at Northpoint Training Center are held on Saturdays and Sundays at scheduled times of 8:30 AM, 11:00 AM, and 1:30 PM. Visits last two hours, and each inmate is allowed up to four in-person visits per month. Video visitation is also available Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with visits lasting 25 minutes. Visitors must be approved and follow the facility’s visitation requirements.
Northpoint Training Center remains an important part of Kentucky’s correctional system, providing a secure environment while supporting rehabilitation and preparation for reentry. Through education, treatment, employment training, reentry services, and other inmate programs, the facility works to provide opportunities that can help individuals prepare for life after incarceration. Northpoint also has dedicated reentry coordinators who assist with transition-related services.
