Luther Luckett Correctional Complex

Located in La Grange, Kentucky, the Luther Luckett Correctional Complex (LLCC) is a Kentucky Department of Corrections facility serving the state’s adult correctional system. The institution is situated in Oldham County and provides secure housing, educational opportunities, vocational programming, and other services designed to support incarcerated individuals.

Luther Luckett Correctional Complex began receiving inmates in March 1981. The facility was originally built to accommodate 486 inmates, but its capacity was later expanded as Kentucky’s correctional population increased. In 1990, the institution began double-bunking general population cells, allowing it to house substantially more individuals. The Kentucky Department of Corrections currently lists LLCC’s institutional capacity at 1,200.

LLCC operates as a medium/maximum-security correctional facility and occupies approximately 33 acres in La Grange, Kentucky. The complex includes multiple living units, special management housing, an annex unit, academic and vocational education facilities, support buildings, and indoor recreation areas. Its security infrastructure includes controlled perimeter fencing, security towers, and continuous perimeter patrols.

One distinctive aspect of Luther Luckett Correctional Complex is its long-standing relationship with the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center (KCPC). KCPC operates within the secure perimeter of LLCC and is administered by the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services. The arrangement provides a secure setting for the psychiatric center to carry out its specialized responsibilities.

The facility also offers programs intended to provide incarcerated individuals with opportunities for education, job-related skills, recreation, and preparation for reentry. These services form part of Kentucky’s broader approach to correctional management and successful transition back into the community.
