Southwestern Illinois Work Camp
The Southwestern Illinois Work Camp, established in August 1995, is a minimum-security facility for adult males. Located within the Southwestern Illinois Correctional Center in East St. Louis, Illinois, the work camp spans 10,038 square feet and is part of a larger 24-acre site. The facility has an operational capacity of 100 inmates, although its population was recorded as zero as of June 30, 2024.
The work camp’s mission is to provide community service to government and non-profit organizations within a 45-mile radius. Inmates also participate in the Correctional Recovery Program, which focuses on substance abuse treatment. This program includes 15 hours of group therapy per week, aiming to rehabilitate individuals while ensuring public safety.
Inmates at the work camp have access to various educational and vocational programs, including Adult Basic Education, GED preparation, and training in custodial maintenance, construction, and horticulture. Volunteer services such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, and vocational seminars further support their rehabilitation.
Visitation at the facility is available on:
- Saturdays, Sundays, and official state holidays from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with no visits processed after 5:00 p.m.
- Visitors must bring two forms of identification, including a photo ID.
