The Ruben M. Torres Unit, located in Hondo, Texas, is a state prison for men managed by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ). Opened in January 1993, the facility is situated three miles west of Hondo off Highway 90 in Medina County. It spans approximately 350 acres and has a maximum capacity to house 1,384 male inmates across various custody levels, including G1, G2, and G4.

The unit offers a range of programs aimed at rehabilitation and skill development. Educational opportunities include Adult Basic Education, GED preparation, and career training in fields like automotive fundamentals, HVAC, and electrical trades. Faith-based and reentry programs, such as the Life Decisions Program and Transformational Ministry Dormitory, are also available. Additionally, the facility supports community work projects and volunteer initiatives, including substance abuse education and mentoring.

The Torres Unit is equipped with ambulatory medical and dental services, all housed on a single level. It also features agricultural operations, including a unit garden and security pack canines, as well as a print shop for manufacturing and logistics.
