Goree Unit in Huntsville


The Goree Unit in Huntsville, Texas, is significant in the state’s history as an evolved establishment. Originally known as Camp Goree, it was founded in 1900 on a vast expanse of land to house fifty-five unruly inmates from Rusk Penitentiary.
