The Skyline Correctional Facility

The Skyline Correctional Facility, nestled in Canon City, Colorado, has a storied history dating back to its opening in 1957. Initially built with a capacity for 60 inmates, it later expanded to accommodate 249 offenders. Primarily housing minimum-security inmates, the facility became part of the Colorado Department of Corrections during the 1970s and earned national correctional accreditation in 2002. However, changes in operational needs led to its closure in 2021.

The closure wasn’t the end for the facility. It reopened in 2022 under the new identity of The Beacon at Skyline. The Beacon is a Level 1 minimum-security prison for rehabilitation and community building. With a reduced capacity of 126, the facility now prioritizes personal growth, fostering relationships, and preparing inmates for re-entry into the community.

• 9:30 am to 3:30 pm on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays
• All appointments requiring advance booking

Visitors must request visits at least a week ahead via phone or email. Limited to five visitors per session, this system ensures equitable access while respecting the facility’s smaller size.
