California Rehabilitation Center (CRC)
The California Rehabilitation Center (CRC), located in Norco, California, is a medium Level II correctional facility under the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Originally opened in 1928 as the Lake Norconian Club, a luxury hotel, the facility underwent significant transformations over the years.
In 1941, it was converted into a Naval hospital by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. After serving through World War II and the Korean War, the hospital closed in 1957. In 1962, the federal government donated the facility to the state of California to use as a narcotics center. By the 1980s, to alleviate overcrowding, CRC began housing felons in addition to civil narcotic addicts.
Today, CRC focuses on providing a secure and safe environment for its inmates, staff, and visitors. The facility offers various vocational and academic programs aimed at rehabilitating inmates and preparing them for reintegration into society. Vocational training includes courses in air conditioning, automotive repair, electrical works, electronics, carpentry, plumbing, computer literacy, and office services.
Academically, CRC provides Adult Basic Education, High School/GED programs, literacy programs, and college courses. Additionally, the center offers self-help and substance abuse programs, such as Narcotics Anonymous, Alcoholics Anonymous, anger management, and the Integrated Substance Use Disorder Treatment (ISUDT) program.
CRC can accommodate up to 2,380 inmates, although it has experienced overcrowding in the past. The current warden, Glen E. Pratt, has been in his role since March 2022, bringing extensive experience from his long career in corrections. The healthcare services at CRC are overseen by Dr. Muhammad Nasir, who has been the healthcare CEO since December 2022.
Visitations at CRC are regulated to ensure the safety and security of both inmates and visitors. Visits are generally scheduled for weekends from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with specific guidelines and restrictions in place. Visitors are encouraged to check the latest visitation schedules and policies before planning their visits.
