Women’s Community Correctional Center

The Women’s Community Correctional Center (WCCC) in Kailua, Hawaii, serves as the state’s sole women’s prison. Its history dates back to its establishment in 1928, when it was initially the Kawailoa Training School for Girls. Over time, the site transitioned into a correctional facility and now accommodates female offenders of maximum, medium, and minimum custody levels.

WCCC is deeply committed to community reintegration. Project Bridge, for example, smooths inmates’ transition by offering employment assistance, education, and substance abuse aftercare. There’s also a focus on cultural healing, with programs rooted in Native Hawaiian values and traditions.

The facility’s community involvement extends beyond its walls. Its inmates contribute through service projects benefiting local government and nonprofit organizations.
