Federal Correctional Institution
The Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) in Forrest City, Arkansas, is a federal prison complex managed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Opened in 1997, the facility is part of the larger Forrest City Federal Correctional Complex (FCC Forrest City), which includes low- and medium-security prisons and a minimum-security satellite camp.
Located 85 miles east of Little Rock and 45 miles west of Memphis, the complex houses male inmates and has a total capacity of approximately 1,900 inmates, with 310 in the minimum-security camp.
FCI Forrest City offers a range of programs aimed at rehabilitation and skill-building. Inmates can participate in educational courses such as GED, ESL, parenting classes, and vocational training in areas like masonry, plumbing, and welding. The facility also runs a UNICOR program, employing inmates to produce furniture under the “Harmony.” All inmates must have job assignments, including clerical work, landscaping, or maintenance.
The prison is named after the town of Forrest City, named after Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest. Over the years, the facility has housed several notable inmates, including rapper Clifford Harris (T.I.) and former district attorney Armando Villalobos.
