Denver Reception and Diagnostic Center

The Denver Reception and Diagnostic Center (DRDC), established in 1991, plays a crucial role within the Colorado Department of Corrections. Located at 10900 Smith Road in Denver, this facility is the starting point for all inmates entering the state’s correctional system. Here, inmates undergo a comprehensive assessment and classification process to determine their appropriate placement within Colorado’s prison network.

DRDC is equipped to meet a variety of inmate needs with its specialized facilities. The center includes a 62-bed transition unit for inmates preparing for transfers, a 36-bed infirmary for medical care, and a 12-bed Special Medical Needs Unit (SMNU) for those requiring advanced medical attention. Additionally, DRDC features an auxiliary dialysis unit, ensuring inmates requiring such treatment have access to it. Daily, the facility houses around 96 permanently assigned inmates in general population housing. Its total capacity is 570 beds.

Visitation at the DRDC is carefully organized. In-person visits are available on:

• Saturdays and Sundays from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Visitor processing times between 8:15 a.m. and 10 a.m. and from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.

Video visits can be scheduled daily between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. These visits must be arranged in advance through Securus Technologies.
